Pernštejn Castle and the silver treasure of Nedvědice
Two must-see gems
One of the most photogenic castles in our country. One of the most frequently featured castles in films the Czech Republic. One of the most important castles in Moravia. And the list of superlatives could go on until the end of times. Pernštejn is simply a gem and those who have visited it have not left disappointed.
It was built in the Gothic style by the owners of the coat of arms of the bison head - the Lords of Pernštejn. For many centuries they played an important role in the political life of the Czech Kingdom. From the 13th century onwards, the castle was modified and improved... until it became the romantic home of the Lords of Mitrov in the 19th and 20th centuries. Yet the exterior hasn't changed much, it's the interiors that have changed (we say: fortunately).
And today, in the 21st century, the guides will take you into the history of the castle and its legends, and you might meet the local White Lady. (Some swear they've met her here, but how much can you trust people when it comes to ghosts?) But at least the kids will see her if you take the Lost White Lady tour with them...
2021 is a pivotal year for the opening of the generously renovated gardens! Take a tour on your own or with a guide. In addition to the greenery, you will see small buildings such as the Chinese pavilion or the Turkish baths.
But don't forget to stop by the information centre in Nedvědice! They exhibit the local silver treasure. There are two fairy tales. A man went into the woods and tripped over a jug full of silver coins. He was an honest man to the bone, so he didn't keep the treasure and handed it over. And you can see it today in the Nedvědice information centre. There is also a small exhibition of tools used in the mining and processing of the local marble (Pernštejn Castle and the church in Doubravník were built from it). The second fairy tale for children is called Beads of the Chambermaid Eliška, you can download the playing card here.
