The efforts of a local apricot breeder have produced the renowned 'Fenz's Fertile Židlochovice' variety, and today the locals celebrate this delicious fruit with a themed festival. However, Mr. Fenz, its breeder, did not receive any official recognition of the variety - the 1950s favoured communism, but not individualism.
Nowadays, the Fenz's apricot in the spotlight! They have planted it in the freely accessible orchard at the new community centre in Židlochovice and are holding an Apricot Harvest Festival in its honour! You can enjoy a culinary programme, apricot menus from local restaurants, a crazy dumpling eating contest (apricot flavoured, of course), and tasting the competition samples of fragrant apricot brandy.
Throughout the year, you can buy apricot delicacies (perhaps as an original souvenir from a trip) at the Židlochovice information centre, as well as local wines, for which the grapes ripened on the slopes of Výhon hill.
