Těšany forge

Historical forge and mention of Maryša

It was here in the old forge in Těšany that Alois Mrštík supposedly got the inspiration to write his immortal drama about the mortal Vávra and the unhappy Maryša. The real Maryša - the model for the literary character - really lived in Těšany. Her name was Marie Turková-Horáková and her family house, where she was buried, still stands here.

But back to the forge! Make sure you go and see the charming historic 17th century forge. It was part of the nobleman's court in the Middle Ages. Nowadays, the Technical Museum in Brno has taken it under its wing. The museum prepared a very interesting exhibition. You will see the 19th century blacksmith's workshop with its original equipment - a furnace with a wide open chimney, bellows, anvil, blacksmith's ponk and tools. On special occasions you will see real blacksmiths in action in the workshop.

You can also buy local cheeses on the premises of the Těšany farm. And if you enjoy folklore, plan a trip to the local Ethnographic Festival. Beautiful embroidered costumes, smiling people, folk craft demonstrations, specialties at the fair...
