Rosa Coeli
Mystical convent in Dolní Kounice
It was founded in 1181 for the sisters of the Premonstratensian Order. During the Hussite wars it was burnt down, then repaired, then it disappeared, then the Strahov Premonstratensians wanted to resurrect it, but after a fire in 1703 they abandoned it to its fate. In short, this building has been through so much that it is clear why the more sensitive individuals feel such strong vibrations here today.
Today's ruins have a huge, literally magical charm. In addition, the temple has great architectural value. Take a guided tour or see it all for yourself. You won't be able to resist and you'll probably snap some great photos. Ancient stone walls covered with lush ivy, the unroofed torso of the nave, the preserved staircase... romance non plus ultra! There are also night open-air concerts with perfect acoustics. It literally tickles you all over. Anyone who's experienced a folk concert here knows exactly what we're talking about.
Even though the monument is a ruin, you can't get in outside of opening hours, so check it out on the website before your trip. You can book a tour outside official opening hours to the convent, the Dolní Kounice Synagogue and the whole town at the local information centre all year round.
