Dolní Kounice Castle
Protector of the Rosa Coeli Convent
The Gothic castle is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic. It was built to defend the famous convent that stands at its foot and also to protect the crossing of the trade route over the Jihlava River. Later it was rebuilt into a residence, but it still retains elements of its fortifications. The dilapidated castle was returned to private hands in restitution and has been flourishing ever since. People also like to choose it as a place for romantic weddings.
Take a tour, you will see elegant Gothic and ornate Renaissance. Enjoy the black kitchen, the banquet hall and an exhibition of castle hygiene. There are weekend wine tastings or the POLOPRO Castle Festival, a celebration of honest local food. Combine a visit to Dolní Kounice Castle with a tour of the Rosa Coeli or the local synagogue.
