Ivančice
A historic town with great charm
Ancient Ivančice, founded in the 13th century, has preserved its charm until today. In the 16th century it was an important centre of Moravian education. The Bishop of the Unity of the Brethren, Jan Blahoslav, set up a secret printing house here and started the famous translation of the Kralice Bible. The Jewish community was also part of the town long time ago - Jewish people are said to have participated in the construction of the medieval walls. But today you will only find a large cemetery outside the town. It is still worth a visit - the oldest tombstone dates back to 1552. You can come here in September for the European Heritage Days.
The historic centre with its Renaissance houses and the remains of the medieval walls is a must-see. The dominant feature is the Church of the Assumption of our Lady with its beautiful Renaissance tower open to public. In the Renaissance Old Town Hall you will find exhibitions about the most famous natives. Yes, we are talking about Vladimír Menšík. You will see his personal items and the actor's voice will guide you through the exhibition.
Alphonse Mucha was born right in the Town Hall! So, obviously you will find his exposition here as well. For example, you will see his clothes for painting and preparatory studies for the famous Slav Epic.
