Bučovice 1645: Storming the Castle
The fight for Bučovice castle was fought in 1645 by literally a handful of high officials and townspeople, although none of them were seasoned fighters with military training (rather the opposite). At that time a detachment of Swedish soldiers invaded Bučovice and plundered the whole town. Except for the church and the castle, which was defended by a group of locals.
Town Festival - 700 years of Bučovice
An event of local significance dates back to the Thirty Years' War and Bučovice commemorates it every year during the town festivities in June. The highlight is always the reenactment of the storming of the castle.
Look forward to historical markets, period delicacies and crafts, and a rich cultural programme, too. You'll hear military drums, see jugglers, fire plays and fabulous costumes, and be transported for a while to a thrilling episode of a 17th century war that lasted an unimaginable three decades. So, are the Swedes going to take over the castle this year or not?
