Zbýšov Heap
And the view into the distance
How to get to it - or rather, on it? In Zbýšov, at the end of Havířská Street, you will find a steep climb up the roads, where for many years trucks have transported stones from the bowels of the earth. The Zbýšov heap rises significantly above the surrounding landscape. At the top, you will be rewarded with a view of Oslavany or the former Antonín, Jindřich and Jindřich II mines. It was from here that the last coal wagon in the region emerged to the surface in 1992.
The former heap, which was artificially created by the export of waste during the black coal mining, is now mercifully covered by the greenery maintained by the Zbýšov National History Association. Some of them are self-seeded trees, some are planted ornamental trees. The site serves as a fine example that after the end of mining, we don't necessarily have to be left with a barren moonscape. Nature will reclaim the place if man doesn't stand in its way, and instead helps a little... Well, come see the place for yourself.
