Tišnov and its villas
Villas that featured in Cops and Robbers
At the end of the 19th century, Tišnov was declared a climatic resort due to its excellent location and beautiful surroundings. A sanatorium and a hydrotherapy institute were built here by Dr. Kuthan. Cultural giants like Halas and Janáček stayed at the sanatorium. Today, it serves as a hospital that has been featured in many films including Cops and Robbers (Četnické humoresky) together with the local Art Nouveau Jaroch Villa with elements of English "cottage" style and the Art Nouveau Villa Franke.
These and other villas were built in the eastern part of Tišnov between the world wars thanks to the fact it became a pleasant spa town. Although today all the villas are privately owned and you can't see the interiors, walking by the beautiful buildings is an interesting showcase of late Art Nouveau, Modernism (folklore style) and Functionalism. The most beautiful of these villas can be seen in the once promenade-like Riegerova Street right next to the Kuthan Sanatorium.
Are you a fan of architecture? Then drop by the important functionalist building of the former municipal savings bank by architects Fuchs and Kumpošt from the 1930s. They gave the building all the conveniences of the time and even today the building is aesthetically perfect. Take a closer look at the interesting white Opaxit tiles on the facade. Today you can withdraw money from an ATM in the building - Komerční banka is located here. Many thanks to local philanthropist Rudolf Vodička for his sensitive renovation of the monument.
Are you interested in precious stones? Then pay attention - in Tišnov you have the opportunity to visit the Minerál Tišnov, the mineral exchange with the longest tradition in the Czech Republic, twice a year (always in spring and autumn).
