Viewpoint Throne of Veveří Castle Manor

Play dwarves

Climb up on the giant chair and see the Veveří estate from the Throne above Hvozdec

All kids love imaginative, fun, and most of all the chance to climb somewhere. That's why they will be thrilled by the unexpected and not yet well-known destination of trips around Veveří Castle. A leisurely walk from Hvozdec will take you to an unusual photo point with a wonderful view. And besides taking nice photos, you will also have fun playing dwarfs.

The next time you move northwest of Brno, plan a stop at the inconspicuous crossroads of dirt roads between Hvozdec and Veverské Knínice. In the autumn of 2022, the tiny lookout called by the locals "U dubu" turned into an attractive place for a cheerful stop. A three-metre high throne symbolically made of oak wood was built here.

Taking photos and climbing is required

Small and big visitors alike can climb on the big wooden chair without fear and enjoy the view of the beauty of Javůrek, Říčany, Veverské Knínice, Hvozdec, Chudčice and Rozdrojovice. The back of the throne is decorated with nine small towers, because according to a children's story, Veveří Castle has the same number of towers, which can be seen from the viewpoint, especially in autumn when the trees are bare.

How to plan a trip?

There are lots of options for getting to this mega chair, and a lot depends on how big your kids are and where you're going. Experienced hikers can easily walk here from Veveří Castle, which is less than five kilometres away. In summer, you can use the Veveří Castle dock and combine the whole trip with a cruise on the reservoir.

If you want to sit on or under a chair, have a picnic with a view and not rush anywhere, you can walk from Hvozdec or Veverské Knínice, both villages are just over a kilometre away. In addition, Hvozdec can be easily reached by bus from the Brno Zoo, which offers another dimension to the whole trip. Knínice can be reached from the Bohunice Hospital and if you plan a trip here in spring or summer, make sure to stop at the seasonal country bistro Průjezd 32.

Many day trippers combine a visit to the wooden throne with a cycling trip around the Brno Reservoir or a visit to other places. For example, Veverská Bítýška, popular for its several pleasant restaurants.
