Kumquat, lychee, kaki, carambola, nashi... Do you know these exotic fruits? No? That's OK. Why not treat your kids to some delicious Czech apricots? Židlochovice is the perfect place to find them!
Regional TIC ŽIDLOCHOVICE
In the local information centre they have everything from apricots... Jam for the little ones, apricot brandy for the big ones. In addition, of course, they sell traditional tourist stamps, maps, etc. The centre includes a wine shop, so you can taste the wines of local winemakers here, too.
They will equip you with advice (related not only apricots) on what to see and experience in the area. They will inform you about the events in the area - the smaller ones and the famous annual APRICOT HARVEST FESTIVAL! It has a different theme every year, but the local apricots play the main role each time. You can sample the classic apricot dumplings or compete in the Dumpling King contest. The locals serve so many goodies made from the fragrant orange fruit that you definitely won't stop at dumplings. It was at the Židlochovice Apricot Harvest Festival that apricot sparkling wine was historically poured for the first time in the world...
And it was the efforts of a local apricot breeder that produced the renowned 'Fenz's Fertile Židlochovice' variety. It was planted in the freely accessible orchard at the new community centre.
In addition to events organised by local associations, the information centre itself organises interesting events now and then. In season, for example, there is a popular breakfast at the Acacia lookout tower on Výhon hill. At dawn you can look around the region from a great height and taste, among other things, jam made from local apricots for breakfast.
