Explore the grounds of the former missile base
Do you remember the time when Brno had a military airport and air defence crews were based in the area? Here, just outside Líšeň, the equipment and bunkers have remained untouched by time, as if the soldiers had left only yesterday. In the area you can touch the equipment that was still defensible not long ago. You can take a ride in an armoured personnel carrier, shoot real or airsoft guns or take part in one of the themed events. Or just stop by for a beer, a draft lemonade and a bite to eat and let your little ones run wild on the playground.
Brief information
Take a tour of the military bunkers
Civilians were strictly forbidden to enter. The whole area was protected by a concrete wall and barbed wire. Even many Brno citizens did not know that the army provided air defence from here. Until 1997, eighty soldiers manned the four active missile launchers. When the defence forces left, they left behind heavy equipment and bunkers. After years of dilapidation, the abandoned site was taken over by enthusiasts who conduct tours, maintain the equipment and even transformed part of the base into an entertainment area called the Bunker.
If you're interested in military history, book a tour or check out the calendar of events where you can explore the base legally. You can find the website at vzabunkr.cz
Find out who's the best sharpshooter in your family
Airsoft keeps the whole family entertained. Rent equipment and shoot at the target. Not afraid to get dirty and want to spice up your visit with a good dose of adrenaline? Shoot against each other on the natural playground.
Even those who don't like guns won't be bored. You can play petanque, get refreshments in the kiosk, ride on quad bikes, an armoured personnel carrier or on the off-road track.
The Bunker hosts annual St. Nicholas Day, Easter and burning of witches, as well as the aforementioned veterans' reunions. Each event is enriched by an accompanying programme. Keep an eye on the current calendar.
How to plan a trip?
You can get to the grounds by car, on foot - Even with a stroller or by bike. By car, take the Mokrá-Horákov route and drop off the crew directly at the base parking lot.
It is uphill from all sides to the former base, but we still recommend combining your visit with a bike trip. You can make a nice circuit through the Mariánské valley, ride from the Ranč U Jelena restaurant to Mokerská myslivna and then take the asphalted forest road to your destination.
Mountain biking enthusiasts need no introduction to the well-known single trails, one of which leads practically right past the base.
Start on foot from the Mariánské valley, the terminus of bus 55. It will take you just 20 minutes to reach the base grounds.
