Disappearing Landscape Nature Trail Rosice Ostrovačice

Explain to children how humans change the world

Go from Rosice to Ostrovačice along the nature experience trail "Disappearing Landscape"

Nature and the world around us are changing rapidly, but we can only understand it perfectly if we symbolically go back in time and compare our surroundings with their state a few hundred years ago. Take your children from Rosice to Ostrovačice on the nature trail "Disappearing Landscape" and, thanks to several small symbolic buildings and unconventional information signs, try to explain to them how much our actions affect the environment we live in. It is a serious topic but don't worry, it can be fun too.

The green hiking trail from Rosice to Ostrovačice led through a rather monotonous landscape that revealed little about the history of the whole area, and so the beautiful idea of building a series of information panels that literally transport you through space and time was born. Each point is beautifully graphic and a kind of symbolic glimpse into history. The transparent panels can conjure up elements of the existing landscape that have long since disappeared.

Wooden buildings for the delight of the eye and the soul

Various small wooden buildings symbolically represent elements that have disappeared in time. The most popular one is the relaxing pier, which carries the story of the now extinct pond between the two villages. It acts as a viewing platform into the open countryside and about halfway along the route will delight children and adults alike.

The Říčanský brook has a reconstructed wooden bridge and a riverbed lined with trees and shrubs offering symbolic shelter from the seemingly endless fields. The built seating area hidden a little below the level of the surrounding terrain is a suitable place for an unconventional picnic. An ideal photo point is a wooden passage portal through which you can symbolically pass from the Rosice land registry to the territory of Ostrovačice or vice versa. You know it: "I'm going north. And now I'm going south".

What else might interest you?

Right on the outskirts of Rosice you will find a richly overgrown natural biotope full of reeds, where you can play hide and seek. On the route you will also pass a small model airfield, the operation of which, of course, only in good weather conditions, is also a popular spectacle for children.

How to plan your trip?

The route is pleasant 3.5 kilometres long, so it can be walked even with smaller children. Remember that the open countryside does not offer much shade in the sultry summer, so it is better to do it in spring or late summer/early autumn.

Rosice is easily accessible from Brno by train and bus, and there is a direct bus from Ostrovačice to Bohunice. The route is easily manageable by public transport.
